Goodwill of North Georgia has long supported the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, believing that inclusiveness is not only key to a successful organization but also crucial for improving the quality of life for employees who may face discrimination based on their lifestyle.
The organization has implemented several initiatives in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Goodwill offered health and other benefits for same-sex couples many years before the passing of Marriage Equality in 2015.
“Goodwill of North Georgia is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all individuals are respected and valued for who they are,” said Alejandro Ugarte, Senior Director of Corporate Compliance & Diversity at Goodwill of North Georgia. “Our policies and culture celebrate diversity and affirm the unique identities of all our employees, including those who identify as LGBTQI+. We strive to empower and protect our employees, allowing everyone to bring their whole selves to work.”
The organization has participated in the Atlanta Pride parade in the last few years, team members help put together the float and the design of the T-shirts to support the initiative.
In addition, the organization has an Employee and Business Resource Group for LGBTQ+ team members. During June’s Pride Month and October’s Atlanta Pride Month, the organization hosts various activities to ensure and reinforce the inclusiveness of its LGBTQ+ members.
Goodwill of North Georgia is committed to supporting its LGBTQ+ members, and the organization acknowledges that this is an ongoing journey. Goodwill is dedicated to creating an environment where everyone feels included and valued.
