Georgia Legislators to Host DEI Hearings

One of the hot topics on today’s political landscape is the concept of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, commonly referred to as DEI, an umbrella term for programs and initiatives designed to create opportunities for minorities and other historically disadvantaged segments of the population. For nearly 100 years, civic leaders, elected officials, community leaders, non-profits and Corporate America have worked to level the playing field in areas like education, finance, employment, criminal justice, civil rights, housing access and public safety, by implementing programs that proactively sought out underserved populations and offered them opportunity.

The GMSDC is active in one segment of the DEI space, supplier diversity, which creates business opportunity for suppliers owned by diverse groups of people. Now more than 50 years old, supplier diversity generates billions of dollars in revenues between diverse suppliers and the corporations and governments that use their goods and services. In recent years, all things DEI have been under attack in the media, the courts and our legislative bodies, with negative outcomes that threaten decades of progress in pursuing equity in America.

A group of Georgia legislators has mobilized an effort for champions of diversity to coalesce in a series of hearings over the next few weeks. Seven legislators have formed a committee of DEI champions who will conduct field hearings, and they want to hear from you.  The hearings – scheduled for Atlanta, Macon, Savannah and Albany – will give Georgians an opportunity to voice their concerns in a public forum and equip these legislators with real-world feedback they can incorporate into their plans for the next legislative session.

The committee wants your input as they gather data about how changes to the DEI landscape are affecting you and your business. If you would like to participate, please review the schedule below and use the links provided to sign up for the hearing in your region. See below for more information.
